The footpaths around the valley were put to good use before and after the half term break for Woldingham’s annual House Cross Country Competition, with all students participating in a year group race (more photos in gallery below). While the winning House won’t be revealed until our end of term celebration assembly, congratulations to the winners of the year group races:

Year 7 Scarlett S (Stuart)

Year 8 Daisy L (Digby)

Year 9 Valentina B (Barat)

Year 10 Mima S (Stuart)

Year 11 and Sixth Form Alice M (Year 11 Duchesne)

Below, Year 8 race winner Daisy brings us up to date on a great start to her cross country season, including the fantastic achievement of an invitation from Surrey County Athletics to join the squad for the inter-counties competition in December.

Daisy L, Year 8

There have been so many cross country races this season, it’s hard to keep count! At the start of October, the Woldingham squad went to the Prior’s Field cross country and our team came third overall. I also managed to grab a win. Swiftly following this, I had the first round of the Epsom Downs cross country league, which I was also thrilled to win.

The following week was the District Cross Country Competition at Royal Alexandra and Albert School. It was a great afternoon and I was delighted to qualify for the Surrey Schools finals. However, you can’t come first all the time. At my first two Surrey League cross country races in Richmond and on Mitcham Common (see photo in gallery below), I finished second. After the Mitcham Common race, I was delighted to get a phone call from Surrey County Athletics, inviting me to join the squad for the inter-counties in December.

On Friday 17 November, six Year 8s took part in the Junior Knole run in Sevenoaks. On a lovely sunny day, we all ran well and our team came 11th, which is a great achievement. I wanted to smash my time from last year, and successfully improved it by 1 minute, finishing 5th out of 186 girls.

The following day, the weather turned wet and windy, meaning sadly my London Boroughs run at Parliament Hill was cancelled. Down but not out, I decided to do a 5k Parkrun and was overjoyed to get new PB of 19:25.
