Woldingham focuses on wellbeing through understanding our emotions on inaugural 'Take 5 Day'

Thursday 18 January was Woldingham’s first Take 5 Day, inspired by the Take 5 tool in students’ personal growth journals for better understanding and managing emotions.

After a whole school assembly encouraging everyone to think about the subtle difference between various emotions, a team of trained coaches, both Sixth Formers and staff, had short conversations with students over lunch and during break about how they were feeling. Using the Take 5 questions, everyone was asked to think about how they felt physically and emotionally, and what was important to them. One Sixth Form student remarked that she often didn’t notice if she was getting cold, hungry or tired, and that this was a good opportunity to check in on herself in a busy day.

In Wellbeing classes, students explored the beneficial effects talking about how we feel can have on our mental health.

Lots of Take 5 stickers were given out by the Take 5 team and Heads of Year to mark the day. We hope that taking the time to notice how we are feeling, and asking someone else how they are and really listening to the answer, will become a habit for all of us. Why not use the graphic and try it yourself now?
