Last Saturday, Year 10 student Vaishvi took part in Generation Tech, J P Morgan’s global programme for young people aged 14-18 which aims to design tech solutions to address United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The day was very rewarding for Vaishvi, as she explains below.
Vaishvi P, Year 10
Generation Tech was a really fun event that taught me lots of new things. Those of us taking part were briefed about the day at an afterschool Zoom session a few days beforehand, where we also learnt how to use some new technologies, including app and website design tools.
The following Saturday, at J P Morgan’s large office in London’s Canary Wharf, we were introduced to three of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and tasked with creating a solution to one of them. My group was given the goal ‘Life on Land’, which includes the aim of increasing biodiversity. We spent four really interesting hours creating a game to help promote this goal, assisted by one of J P Morgan’s technology experts. Although computer science isn’t my strong suit, I found ways to come up with ideas and contribute!
I really benefited from this experience and learnt new skills such as leadership, communication, teamwork and technology. It was very valuable workshop and I would definitely recommend it.
