Sport was straight out of the blocks at the start of the second half of term, with this week’s cricket tournament at Lord's for the U15 squad, a tough match for the U13A netball team in the Independent Schools Netball Cup and a successful Woldingham debut for some U14 netballers.
Vaishvi P, Year 10
On Tuesday 20 February, Year 10 cricketers were lucky enough to take part in an indoor tournament at the world-famous Lord’s Cricket Ground, London, known as ‘The Home of Cricket’.
Before the tournament, we were given a guided tour. We visited the MCC Museum, dedicated to cricket’s history and development, went on the pavilion and saw where players walk down onto the pitch, which was amazing. We also saw the honours board and visited the players’ changing room as well as the balcony overlooking the whole pitch.
In the tournament, we played five indoor matches against very good teams from other schools. It was a great competition, with eight overs per match and four balls per over, meaning all of us had the chance to hit a few balls and most of us also got to bowl.
Overall, it was a great experience – and lots of fun – to visit and play cricket at such a special venue.
Amaya S, Year 8
On Tuesday 20 February, the U13A netball team (pictured below) faced a tough challenge in an away game against North London Collegiate School in the Independent Schools Netball Cup. We made a strong start, taking a two-goal lead in the first quarter, and extending it to five by half-time. However, our opposition made some strategic adjustments and brought in new players in the second half and managed to level the score by the end of the third quarter. As the game drew to a close, we made valiant efforts in the centre court with numerous interceptions, but North London Collegiate took the win, with a final score of 21-19 in a hard-fought match.

Elsewhere on the netball courts, it was great to see a win for our U14C team in a league fixture against Reigate School, with some players representing Woldingham for the first time (see photo below).
